What is a Maker Faire?

It’s the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. Read more about the origins of the movement and the people behind Maker Faire here.

 

Who produces Maker Faire Adelaide?

South Australian Makers Incorporated– a volunteer run, not for profit organisation that exists to provide opportunities for and to promote makers and making in South Australia.

A team of volunteers work for 6 months to bring the event together and we are joined by more volunteers on the day to help deliver the event.

What kind of people are part of Maker Faire Adelaide?

All kinds of individuals, clubs and businesses. We have had everything from hat makers to drones, traditional making such as tinsmithing and weaving to new technologies such as 3D printing and robots.

Some people ran hands on workshops – we’ve had sock monster making, coding, Ardunio programming and have a go at spinning wool.

TBA 2022 from 10am until 4pm

 

Where do the profits from Maker Faire Adelaide go?

The proceeds from the event support MakerSpace Adelaide, a volunteer run community space providing low cost access to Digital Fabrication including 3D printers and a laser cutter, Digital Media Facilities, Woodworking Workshop including a CNC Mill, Metalworking Workshop, Sewing Room and Electronics Room.

 

Is it child-friendly?

Absolutely! Kids of all ages love Maker Faire.

There will be workshops and demonstrations and places to rest, play and watch while grabbing some refreshments.

 

Are your venues accessible?

Yes, all the public spaces are fully wheelchair accessible.

 

How do we get there?

There is car parking at the Tonsley site, accessed via Alawoona Avenue, Mitchell Park.

Or catch the bus to Stop 24A, South Road and it’s a short walk into the Tonsley Complex.

 


 

Information for Exhibitors

 

How much does it cost to be part of Maker Faire Adelaide?

Prices vary and can be as low as $30 for individual makers. The full exhibitor price list will be available during our Call for Makers application period.

 

Will I need insurance?

Public Liability Insurance is covered in your registration fee. You may require Professional Indemnity Insurance if you are selling products or service.

 

What do I get for the registration fee?

You will be given a powered site (4m x 4m) with 1 trestle table and 2 chairs. Your area will have  a wall or fence on which you can hang or lean items. Your fee includes Public Liability insurance.

You many need to pay extra for a bigger space, more tables, chairs and extra power.
